Southern Transitional Council spokesperson Anwar Al-Tamimi said the control of southern forces over Wadi Hadhramaut was part of the implementation of the Riyadh agreement, and nothing more, stressing that the agreement explicitly stipulated the departure of these forces and ordered them to fight the Houthis.
Al-Tamimi explained, in statements to Al-Arabiya channel, that the movements of the southern forces were based on urgent estimates on the ground to limit smuggling operations, noting that the movement towards Hadhramaut and Al-Mahra was in application of the signed agreements.
The spokesperson for the Southern Transitional Council confirmed that the movements in Hadhramaut were part of the legitimacy in Yemen and aimed at controlling the security situation and preventing the smuggling of weapons to the Houthis, stressing that what happened reflects the council’s commitment to the agreed political and security path.
Al-Tamimi stressed that the southern forces did not step out of the framework of legitimacy, but rather adhered to the terms of reference governing the political and military process, and that the main objective is to protect security and stability and prevent any threats affecting Yemen and the region.
